Mineral is Attending Schwab Impact 2017. Here are the Sessions We’re Most Excited About
This week, I’ll be attending Schwab IMPACT 2017 along with Mineral CEO Jud Mackrill. We’ll be there to support many of our clients exhibiting or attending themselves, and also to talk with financial advisors to get the pulse of the industry.
Schwab IMPACT is always a great time of connecting with old friends, making new ones, and learning more about what’s up and coming in the industry for the year ahead.
When I’m prepping for a conference, I like to read thoughts from others about what they’re excited to see. So with all that said, here’s a quick rundown of all the sessions I’m most excited to attend at this year’s IMPACT conference.
The Fiduciary Rule: How It Impacts Retirement Planning Advising @ 12:30PM
Tuesday is the pre-conference day and as such, it’s a little light on sessions to attend. But I’m keen on checking out this one because it involves a topic on which I’m not quite an expert – the DOL Fiduciary Rule. With all the legal challenges and other issues the rule has had, I’m eager to see how its effect is addressed by Scott Matheson of CAPTRUST.
Advanced Roth Conversion Strategies @ 9:45AM
I’m not a financial advisor. I’m a digital marketer. So why would I care to attend a session about advanced Roth conversion strategies? Pretty simple: The presenter is Michael Kitces. As one of the most prolific and prominent leaders in the financial advice industry today, Michael’s always worth listening to, and his insights into advisory firm best practices are critical for me as a marketer too.
Developing the Next Generation of Talent Through Internships @ 1:00PM
Adding younger advisors to firms is a challenge, and it’s receiving a lot of attention throughout the industry. But it’s not a problem that only advisors are faced with; across all industries, finding qualified next-gen employees can be daunting. We’ve tried internships at Mineral, so I’m curious to get some insight on what strategies the panelists have implemented to create a successful guide.
Putting Clients on a Digital Path @ 3:30PM
As a digital marketer, I am all for creating a client experience that eschews traditional norms and pushes clients into the future. So I’m excited to see what steps Lauren Wheeles of Schwab recommends advisors take to create a more digital practice that’s less reliant on paper and physical spaces.
What’s Your Story? Communicating Your Vision to Clients @ 9:45AM
Communicating who you are, what you do, and why you’re the right fit is what it’s all about. Wrapping those critical value propositions into a story-based narrative is even tougher. There’s always room to get better at telling the story of us, and I’m hoping to learn how to increase my skills during this session.
Junxure Cloud CRM: Automate Better Client Service @ 11:15AM
Junxure is a CRM solution that’s been serving advisors for a while now, and as a firm built by an advisor, they’ve got a unique approach to what firms need. Robert DeFrancis is always an engaging speaker, and I’m again looking forward to what he has to say about providing great client service.
Using Social Influence to turn Clients into Fans @ 2:30PM
What’s a great way to get more referrals? You’ve got to provide inspiring moments that will turn clients into more than clients. They’ve got to become advocates, or fans. I’m hoping to pick up some tips that I can use when coaching advisors on how to use social influence to create more advocates and in turn, grow their business.
Stop Self-Sabotaging Your Referral Process @ 8:30AM
The referral theme continues on Friday morning. Your business can’t live on referrals alone anymore (although we did write about a way to get more here), but the question of if you aren’t even doing enough for it to get started in the first place is thought-provoking. I can’t wait to learn more about streamlining a referral process that gets results.
What Losing Teaches About Winning @ 10:45AM
Theo Epstein, the president of the Chicago Cubs, closes IMPACT with the final keynote. The Cubs, known as the Lovable Losers for years, are now a team with a winning culture. I’m not a big fan of baseball, but I do love learning about cultural and company dynamics and how to shift them from bad to great, and I think this is going to be a final keynote to remember.
